Jessica, Dom, Coffee, French Toast and Zombies

I just came back from meeting Dom Zook and Jessica Baxter, two super heros movie makers from seattle. Both are very low key and very cool. It was nice meeting more people outside my circle of friends. I love my circle of friends but I also love meeting new people. Anyway we talked about mainly seattle and movies. I did pick up the trailer for Snow day and we talked briefly about the Snow Day Chaointe coffee shop party in October. I say in October because I dont know if it will be on the 28th or 29th or possibly maybe the 30th. Anyway, visit thier websites.

It was good meeting you too. Seattle has such a healthy filmmaking scene, it's a pity so many people work in insular little groups. More networking! :)

There are a lot of groups in Seattle. I wonder what would happen if they all came together. Maybe not to make a company but to just make a movie they all agree on. That would be pretty cool. hmmmmmm(the hamster in my brain is running)

It'd never happen. They each want what's best for them (the operators of the organization) first and members second. And what's best for members is whatever method they can employ to make their organization look better than any other organization. It's become a power-play more than anything else with lip-service from the various leaders about how "we should all work together" but never actually follow through - or only work with a select few of predetermined folk who are already members of their ilk.

Now, they will work with you if you're an auteur filmmaker from Canada with high-concept films on your mind. :)

Ive got it, Lets get an actor to pretend to be a Canadian Film Director. Secretly we will be giving him scripts of what to say. maybe Howie Mandel or emo Philips.
sorry I had to put a positive spin on it and Howie Mandel always cheers me up in a very bizarre way.

Trust me guys, this has been tried time and again. There was the Washington Film and Video Association, Red Farm Films, United Productions. All with the Hight Ideal of tryign to make films. teh only problem was that Seattle's renowned coldness was and is to this day multiplied 10 fold in its film industry. Every one jealously protecting his or her own little piece of the pie. That is why I dropped out of the scene 15 years ago. I was thouroughly sick of either the Gitane smoking art house snobs, the so called "Professionals" who never worked out of their clique or the out of town carpet baggers who would blow in and try to get everyone to work for free.
With the Canadian Subsities and their one way border it was close to impossible to make a living unles you wanted to be a PA on some shoot up from LA.
The only thing that drew me back was Matthew's pure enthusiasm.
But I promise to box the ears of the next Film school punk who says "It's not a 'Movie', its a 'Film'". Yeah, shut up and finish making my Latte, Slacker.

Funny I had a guy tell me mine wasnt a film but a movie. The guy then explained to me why probably because I sat at his feet and started taking meticulous notes on things that dont matter. I thought it was a story. Well the only thing that has gotten me going was sheer dilusion. I dealt with a very similiar crowd in music. The cliques of Johnny cash fans or are they goths I can never tell the difference and the bands on tour who really dont care. I think having fun is definitally where its at. I just re-read what I wrote and I am sure if My employer ever reads this blog randomn drug testing will follow.
